The New Scalable and Adaptable Web Presence

As you know, we pride ourselves in being Scalable, Adaptable and Collaborative. And part of being collaborative is being accessible to our clients.  Our new website, launched today, takes this to our web interface as well.  Designed by Randy Karels, this website uses leading responsive web technology to adapt and scale the content to the device accessing it, whether it is a small mobile device or a high resolution monitor.   So, now we fit your needs in more than one way.

If you are interested in seeing how this works, whip out your iPhone, iPad, Macbook Air, and your 27” iMac and load oculuslightstudio.com. Or just use Responsinator to see all at the same time.

Oculus visits the James Turrell Retrospective at LACMA

“Sir—keep away 4 feet from the art!” What do a bunch of lighting designers do when they see lighting art? Get in trouble of course.

The Turrell Retrospective at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is a very impressive way to experience light. And of course the urge to dissect the installation is always there—so in addition to legitimately poring over the details in Turrell’s displayed notebooks, we could not resist sneaking behind the magic curtain too, only to be quickly reprimanded by the guards.

What’s in a Name?

Why Oculus Light Studio?

Oculus is Latin for eye. It is also a circular aperture that allows light into a space (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oculus).

Since lighting design is a very visual profession and our job is to decide where the light allowing apertures go, the two meanings of the word suit a lighting design firm well.
