Why Oculus Light Studio?
Oculus is Latin for eye. It is also a circular aperture that allows light into a space (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oculus).
Since lighting design is a very visual profession and our job is to decide where the light allowing apertures go, the two meanings of the word suit a lighting design firm well. Realizing that there is more to lighting design that just locating lights, the eye represents both observation and perception – both important aspects of what we do.
