Georgia Aquarium's SHARKS! Predators of the Deep Opens Today!
After nearly three years of design and construction, it’s finally ready for the grand reveal, and Oculus couldn’t be more excited and proud to have been a part of it all! Today Georgia Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the Western Hemisphere, is opening its much anticipated and mysterious exhibit, SHARKS! Predators of the Deep! With 1.2M gallons of water and over 5 different species of sharks, this exhibit is sure to give thrills and chills, while helping educate its visitors on these misunderstood creatures.
Designed to mimic shafts of moonlight grazing the themed rockwork, the lighting uses very few fixtures for a tank of this size, located very intentionally to create a moody atmosphere and dramatic composition. A unique part of the design process was working with the PGAV Destinations and Georgia Aquarium teams to conduct a series of mockups over their existing Ocean Voyager tank. We compared different light outputs, beam spreads, and color temperatures with whale sharks and manta rays as our live models!
With amazing views and exclusive encounters, including a cage dive, the SHARKS! exhibit is an exciting adventure that can’t be missed! Learn more about the new gallery here!
Congratulations to Georgia Aquarium and PGAV Destinations!
