FLOR 401 Supportive Housing Lofts Near Completion
Oculus Light Studio is in the midst of wrapping up work on the FLOR 401 Lofts, one of three recent developments funded by Skid Row’s Proposition HHH bond. We designed in collaboration with KoningEizenberg on these new affordable housing units, which will support individuals experiencing homelessness: half of the units are intended for homeless Veterans, and the other half for low-income households and/or those with special needs.
Oculus designed the lighting for the 99 residential units and administrative office support spaces, as well as the common room, lobby and shared kitchen and laundry spaces. Lighting for the exteriors included the building facades, circulation spaces, landscape and 6th-floor roof-top garden.
FLOR 401 is a conscience application of lighting design in the presence of urban renewal. Well-lit offices provide comfortable, safe lighting for veterans services and a gobo on the top floor provides dappled lighting to the courtyard below.
