REI Seattle Flagship Store Lighting Redesign

REI is a unique company that offers a way to get in touch with nature by providing gear and travel opportunities.  Working alongside the retail architect, CallisonRTKL, with whom we have collaborated on many projects over the years, the lighting design plan adapted to the new store design guidelines while complementing the modern and rustic aesthetic that the brand is known for.  The new lighting utilized controls that can monitor and integrate the lighting levels with natural daylight cohesively in the space.

Metal Halide high bay pendants were replaced with about 300 lower wattage LED pendants which will last longer and provide more light on the merchandise below.  A mishmash of different track systems were harmonized with a single layer of pendants and spaced consistently in order to light the perimeters and provide uniquely flexible infrastructure for any seasonal variation in display.

After 20 hours on ladders aiming track heads, the space glows with warm wooden red and yellow tones, perfect for inspiring would-be nature enthusiasts!
