Keck Medicine of USC, Los Angeles, CA

Keck Medicine of USC aims at providing decentralized specialty healthcare services for cancer patients, thereby reducing patient travel time to obtain quality care. The lighting design approach focuses on patients’ emotional well-being during treatment and revolves around three key elements: Hospitality, Harmony, and Hygge (the Scandinavian concept of coziness). Lighting sets a gentle tone that is loungelike, rather than clinical, utilizing LED technology in a cohesive family of line style patterns. The individual pendants over infusion bays along with table lamps, allow for local control as desired by the patient. Ultimately, the lighting design excels beyond aesthetics, function, and cost requirements, by focusing on how the light provides a safe and comfortable space for occupants.
