Al Jamea Tus Saifiyah, Narobi, Kenya
A design competition won by FXFOWLE, FSA and Andropogon, the Al Jamea Campus in Nairobi, Kenya is a theological University for the Dawoodi Bohrahs, with its main campus located in Surat, India. The campus spans a 43 acre area bordering on the local residential community. Taking clues from Fatemi literature and ideologies, light is seen as a source of knowledge that is spreading in the open and enclosed spaces in the campus. The sacred core receives a layer of lighting inspired by historic references, and when transitioning away from the center, the lighting becomes more contemporary. The project emphasizes low energy use and is pursuing a LEED certification.
Oculus worked on creating a lighting design intent package in association with Insiya Divan, Principal of ID Lighting Design and lead designer for the project.
