Sustainable Design at HPS's New Law Office

Located in Century City, HPS’s new law office blends inviting hospitality with modern professionalism. Beyond a lighting strategy that enhances both aesthetics and functionality, the project prioritizes sustainability. At the heart of the design, we made a conscious decision to incorporate a majority of light fixtures manufactured in Southern California. By supporting local manufacturers and artisans, we ensured superior quality and craftsmanship while minimizing the environmental footprint and boosting the local economy.

Over 80% of the fixtures used in the project were manufactured within 40 miles of the site. This includes slot fixtures and specialty linears from Prudential Lighting’s union shop in Downtown Los Angeles, downlights and cylinders from CSL Lighting in City of Industry, and high-performance linear downlights from Extant Lighting in Huntington Beach. For specialty items, we focused on North American manufacturers whenever possible. Stahl and Band, designing out of Venice, LA, created the meeting room pendant, while Allied Maker in Long Island, NY, handcrafted multiple sconces and pendants to meet the client’s aesthetic preferences. These partnerships reflect our commitment to local craftsmanship and environmental stewardship.

The sum effect of these decisions was reflected in the HPS’s law office lighting strategy. A strategy that highlights the warm wood tones of the millwork, adding warmth and elegance to the office. Innovative light portals provide seamless transitions between different spaces, enhancing the spatial experience. The overall lighting design fosters an inviting atmosphere, making clients feel comfortable and at ease while supporting a productive work environment for the HPS team.
