IES Illuminations Awards 2021

IES just announced their list of Illumination Merit Award Recipients and… drum roll please… Oculus has won 3 of these awards!

Amazon Nitro, which has already won a 2021 IALD Award of Merit, won awards for both the interiors and exteriors of the project. Inside these two office towers,  lighting was designed for highly flexible workspaces and amenities for Amazon with street level retail enhancements. Outside, the 40’ tall ceiling over a public walkway, is inspired by a murmuration, the phenomenon of starlings flying in complicated yet coordinated patterns. The lighting at the underside of this high ceiling generates an artistic composition of impressive scale.

The third was awarded to the St. Louis Aquarium located in a historic train station. The lighting design brings this journey to life, transitioning from warm colors mimicking dappled sunlight over river exhibits, to the ocean tanks where bluer tones evoke the feel of being deep in the ocean.
