Oculus Travels: Summer 2019
With summer coming to an end, we’re reflecting back on our vacations, which have taken us all over the world, including to Europe, Hawaii, India, Chicago, Vancouver, and Portland. We hope you enjoy these snippets from our travels!
SARAH
During the Labor Day weekend, Sarah went hiking in the mountains surrounding Portland. She walked along the creeks deep within the forest to find the hidden waterfalls, and it definitely was worth hours of hiking to discover them. Having endured a long hot summer in LA, she felt refreshed and re-hydrated in the mist from the falls. After finishing her long hike, Sarah visited a local beekeeper; nothing tastes better than newly harvested honey paired with fruits just picked from their orchard!
CHAO-WEI
Chao-Wei enjoyed a birthday week trip in Vancouver where he cycled around Stanley Park. The Mermaid was a highlight of the trip, and geese just happened to be swimming by, making it a perfect photo opportunity. He visited Joffre Lake just outside Vancouver City for a challenging 4-hour hike. Chao-Wei also visited the UBC (University of British Columbia) Blue Whale museum exhibit where he watched a full feature documentary film as part of the exhibit experience and toured the vast library animal collections right next to the main exhibit.
LIKHITHA
Likhitha visited the “Windy City” during Labor Day weekend. The first stop in the city was at Lou Malnati’s to relish their famous deep-dish pizza! She spent the next two days strolling through numerous parks and discovering the history of the city on the architectural river cruise. Likhitha went up to the observation deck in the John Hancock Building for the amazing aerial views of the city and had a thrilling experience at TILT, being tilted on a glass platform 30 degrees off the building for a skyhigh view! She also visited Frank Lloyd Wright’s home and toured the historic neighborhood, spotting many Wright-designed buildings.
